Artificial Intelligence Goes Hotel Hunting, Google Changes the Rules of the Game, and New Palaces Open Around the World

This week in the hospitality industry brings three signals of the same shift: guests are increasingly not searching for a hotel themselves, but asking an algorithm instead. And if that's the case, visibility in AI, on Google, and on the map of global openings is becoming one shared battlefield for travelers' attention. We take a look at what's happening and what it means for hotels operating in Poland.

01 · AI & Marketing

AI Instead of a Search Engine - A New Marketing Challenge [1]

Let's start with a topic that, just two years ago, would have sounded like science fiction, but today is everyday business for marketing departments. The latest industry analysis shows that as many as 39% of users encounter outdated or simply incorrect information about hotels when they ask generative AI about them - wrong check-in times, outdated prices, amenities that don't even exist. Worse still for hotels that don't keep this in check - fully 40% of travelers say they would be willing to rely entirely on AI when comparing offers, rather than browsing websites and booking portals themselves.

The solution proposed by the analysis's authors is an approach called "Knowledge Formation Optimization" - that is, systematically and consistently publishing hotel data (descriptions, prices, amenities, policies) in a format that AI models can correctly read and cite. In practice, this is a new front in the competition for guests: it's no longer enough to rank high on Google - hotels now need to be correctly "understood" by chatbots, which are increasingly becoming the first point of contact with a brand.

02 · Openings & Design

Historic Landmarks Return to the Game - September's Wave of Luxury Openings [2]

Speaking of visibility - nothing builds it better than a high-profile opening. September 2026 brings a whole series of debuts united by one theme: a second life for historic architecture. In Lisbon, guests are being welcomed into a restored palace under The Standard brand; in Rome, the former Bank of Italy building has been transformed into Corinthia Rome; and in New York, the iconic Waldorf Astoria is reopening after a thorough renovation. On top of that comes the debut of the Amanu brand, launching with its first Mexican resorts in Baja California.

The common denominator behind these openings isn't coincidence - it's a clear trend: turning historic, often landmark buildings into prestigious hotels that combine heritage with modern design and amenities. For Polish investors and architects designing hotel interiors, this offers concrete inspiration, showing how to balance preserving a building's character with the expectations of today's premium guest.

03 · Online Distribution

Google Phases Out Old Pricing - Deadline September 30 [3]

And finally, a topic with a hard deadline on the calendar. As of September 30, 2026, Google will stop independently pulling room prices from third-party providers within Google Hotel Ads. In practice, this means that hotels that haven't connected their own pricing feed through Hotel Center or a trusted integration partner will simply disappear from the price comparison tool in Google search results.

This is a change that hits straight at the bottom line - for many properties, Google Hotel Ads is one of the main sources of free visibility and direct booking traffic, without going through an OTA. Time is running short, and marketing and distribution teams that haven't yet verified their integration status should do so as quickly as possible - otherwise they risk vanishing from the comparison screen at the exact moment when guests (see point one) are increasingly willing to let AI make the decision for them.

Summary

Summary

This week's takeaway is simple: hotel visibility is no longer a matter of a single channel. Hotels need to simultaneously make sure their property data is correctly "understood" by AI, maintain the quality and character of their offering at the level of global design standards, and not miss technical deadlines for tools like Google Hotel Ads. All of these threads - hotel technology, interior design, and distribution strategy - will be discussed at Hotel Equipment Expo – Branżowe Targi Wyposażenia Hoteli i Rozwiązań dla Hotelarstwa. Stay tuned for the next installments of our review, and see you at the expo!
